REVIEW zero French. quarter of college students who sat for the uniform examination in French, last year, showed a mastery "insufficient", "very low" or even "zero" in spelling and syntax. A paper released yesterday by the Ministry of Education reveals that 29.1% of 46 583 students who underwent this mandatory review, in 2009-2010, the failed component spelling and grammar spelling. "Portion" syntax and punctuation "for its part has been missed by 17 , 5% of students. For a failure in this by-part examination, he had yet to do more than 30 mistakes, the document said. Nevertheless, the vast majority of students received a passing grade in this event, due to the weighting given to each criterion. The spokesperson of the Federation of colleges, Caroline Tessier says that boys were less successful than girls, in this review. "It is clear that there is a special effort to do with them," she said. Ms. Tessier said that the "support centers" and "during upgrade" exist in colleges, to support young people experiencing difficulties in French. The spokesman added that the colleges have "strengthened" the training of students in French this fall with the arrival of young people from the education reform. Three provinces fail to provide adequate educational services to children with attention deficit disorder / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), supports the Canadian agency rights of sufferers. The Centre for ADHD Advocacy Canada argues that Quebec, British Columbia and Ontario to better identify and support students with these disorders. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador were rated "good" because they identify students with ADHD as an "exceptional students, allowing them to obtain accommodation such a separate room for exams or extra time to complete an exercise. Video Game: Quebec industry healthy. The video game industry is doing well in Quebec, but generated fewer new jobs than expected in 2010, according to a survey conducted among TechnoCompétences fifty studios in the province. Manouane Beauchamp, director of projects at TechnoCompetences argues that the video game industry in Quebec will see its workforce grow by 18.5% in 2011. (Photo: Patrice Lamoureux) In total, 49 of the 81 companies that met the selection criteria agreed TechnoCompétences the survey. The 49 companies participating in the study clustered in October 6602 jobs directly related to the electronic game industry in Quebec. Last year, the survey conducted by the agency counted 6,293 jobs distributed in only 39 companies, making comparisons difficult between the two documents. "By including the 81 firms in the video game in Quebec, we expect the video game industry in Quebec will have between 7,000 and 7,200 jobs at 31 December," says Mr. Beauchamp interviewed. In his 2009 study, TechnoCompétences provided that the Quebec industry would this target to 30 June. Mr. Beauchamp said that companies affected by the recession, particularly those that provide quality assurance services: "The insurance companies saw themselves as awarded contracts by the major studios. With the slowdown, they preferred to perform these tests in-house, so as to work their workforce to their full potential rather than to outsource these services, "he said. About 47% of participating companies said they have difficulty recruiting for some positions. "The most difficult positions to fill are those related to programming and production art (2D and 3D animators, interface designers, modellers, etc.).. Looking for programmers poses the most challenges because the studios are looking for candidates with a combination of expertise in some programming languages and experience in the field of electronic game, "says the document. According to data from the 2010 study, 58% of all jobs in the gaming industry are related to the programming or art direction. Specifically, 2 214 jobs (34%) related programming; 1,610 jobs (24%) in relation to artistic production; 993 jobs (15%) related to the quality control; 723 jobs (11%) related to game design; 543 jobs (8%) related to the production management jobs and 519 (8%) in connection with the functions of production support (accounting, marketing, human resources, etc..). Survey respondents have established or plan to create a total of 1,362 jobs this year and the same number next year, including 328 (24%) for new graduates and workers with less than two years experience. This means that the rising number of workers in 2011 is forecast at 18.5% and the video game industry directly generate over 8,300 jobs on 1 January 2012. " The types of jobs desired target next year once the programming and art direction in almost 60% of cases. The studios do not hide and seek mainly experienced workers, but there is room for employees who are entering the job market, "said Beauchamp Manouane. He adds that the video game industry in Quebec is relatively young and the system of mentoring is expanding: "Several companies have revealed that they had hired their personal experience (senior). For 2011, their priority is to recruit employees with less than two years experience to place under the supervision of senior staff said, "he said. Mr. Beauchamp did not believe that hiring projections for 2011 are too optimistic that the recent arrival of Funcom studios, THQ and Warner Bros. in Montreal, as well as the emergence of new technologies including televisions 3D gesture recognition, games, stereoscopic or touch pads are all promising avenues for developing new products. TechnoCompétences stresses, however, that these new technologies present two major challenges: "The first labor because she has no experience or training. Companies must prioritize one form of internal self-study, during which time the company has no record of earnings immediately noticeable. The second challenge concerns the adoption and impact of these hypothetical new technologies to market. " TechnoCompétences is the Sectoral Committee of workforce information technology and communications (ICT) in Quebec. The annual study of video game industry, designed and produced by the body, aims to monitor trends in employment levels in this specific area of ICT. Some statistics on the video game industry in Quebec in 2010. The 6602 employment of 49 companies are divided into three main groups: 5,776 (88%) jobs in 40 companies developing electronic games; 420 (7%) jobs in 3 companies for testing and quality assurance; 406 (6 %) jobs in 6 software companies and business support services for electronic games. The jobs are mainly concentrated on the island of Montreal: 4860 (73%) jobs in 30 companies in the Montreal area; 1178 (18%) jobs in 10 companies in the region of Quebec, 564 (9%) Job 9 companies in other regions of Quebec. www.directioninformatique.com/DI/client/fr/DirectionInformatique/Nouvelles.asp?id=59861

LOW DEGREE OF GUYS. Charest the buck to parents. If you want to improve the success of the guys in Quebec schools will require that parents play their "role", warned yesterday the Prime Minister, Jean Charest. "These are parents who are the main actors on the issue of their children's education [...] [...] They must themselves, their responsibilities with regard to the issue of education of their [children] "said the head of government, the National Assembly. Mr. Charest was responding to a question from the leader of the ADQ, Gerard Deltell, indignant that statistics released by the Journal yesterday regarding graduation rates of boys. Of all the guys who started their studies in secondary school public in 2004, fewer than one in two had graduated five years later. In some school boards, nearly 65% of boys had failed to obtain any qualifications. The ADQ leader lamented that these grim statistics are known, even as the bureaucracy of school boards is increasingly criticized. "The government prefers to invest in structures rather than in services, because since 2000, there are 140,000 fewer students in our school system, and there are over 700 executives in the school boards," said Mr. Deltell, recalling the revelation by the Journal last June. The Leader of the Second Opposition Group has added, saying the plan Hooked launched in 2009 by former Education Minister Michelle Courchesne, the results showed "pitiful." More than seven years after the Liberals came to power, the current Education Minister Line Beauchamp, countered that the government returned "by far, after cuts [made by the Parti Québécois]." But still, the budgets education increases, she said. Us, we decided to add resources to the professional, specialist staff of support. "Recalling that Quebec is doing well, when taking into account all the citizens who end up graduating to adulthood, Ms. Beauchamp has acknowledged that" the graduation before age 20 "is" the challenge "that must be addressed. To solve this problem, the minister said that the government relies in particular on reducing class size and the Hooked on plan submitted last year by Ms. Courchesne. "A comprehensive plan with specific targets," she said. * The Government has set a goal of raising the rate of graduation from high school at 80 % By 2020. http://lejournaldemontreal.canoe.ca/journaldemontreal/actualites/national/archives/2010/11/20101103-035308.html

Health Physicians drop out. While sorely lacking in more than one doctor per month disaffiliates of the Board of health insurance, most of the time to exercise in private. A situation that continues to grow. According to the latest data from the Régie de l'assurance-maladie du Québec, there are 129 non-participating general practitioners in Quebec, against 96 in August 2008. Just since the beginning of the year, 11 have left the public network. In 10 years the trend has increased since only 18 family physicians who had left the network in January 2001. "We care a lot," drops the president of the Federation of General Practitioners of Quebec, Dr. Louis Godin. "It like the working conditions on the ground. Why do they disengage? Because it gives them more income and work at their own pace. "He said the growing shortage has caused the exodus of doctors to the private sector. "More conditions deteriorate, more doctors are fed up and go to the private." The fact that we need doctors in the public system also creates a growing demand for family medicine in private. "People will pay it instead of a dinner out." If, in the early 2000s, specialists were more likely to opt for private, trend was reversed. Since last year, we even saw their number from 73 to 72. For Dr. Godin, it must increase wages and conditions of practice to convince more young people to choose family medicine. Dr. Yves Lamontagne, outgoing president of the College of Physicians, advocates instead an approach that would allow doctors to make public a few hours a week in private. "In France, doctors can work in both systems. The private sector here is regarded as the Mafia and leprosy. There is not just bad things, the private sector, "said he. He believes that fewer doctors would be tempted to opt out. He even believes that some physicians may encounter patients at private expense. "It would release the public network for large cases and more cases minors are treated in private." * A doctor must file a notice 30 days before its withdrawal from the RAMQ. www.canoe.com/infos/quebeccanada/archives/2010/10/20101029-042700.html
SCHOOL Prof. Ontario, illegal here. Mélissa Sirois shows obtained his BA in History at Concordia University and his Bachelor of Education degree from Laurentian University. Despite the shortage of teachers that strikes our schools, Ministry of Education requires a teacher Quebec graduate of two universities and with many years of experience in Ontario to pass a test of French or English, before they can teach us. Otherwise, it is "illegal" portion Quebec. As unbelievable as it sounds, Melissa Sirois is virtually unable to find employment, even part time in Quebec's school system since she has returned to the province last summer. The 30 year old woman, who nevertheless possesses a Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University in northern Ontario, was advised by the Department of Education that it will not receive a teaching permit before undergoing a test of English or French, on 14 December. In the meantime, she tries with little success to be hired as substitute in different boards. She was contacted by the CS des Hautes-Rivières, on Monday, but he was not offered a replacement day, today, in a primary school. "I am a bit depressed, since I am looking for work," she says. At a time when schools lack teachers to the point of turning to high school graduates teach, the fate Melissa Sirois is somewhat surprising. She holds a BA in history from Concordia University, the resident of Chambly was established in Sudbury in 2005 where she earned a degree in education. She was then admitted to the Order of Ontario teachers. For two years, Melissa Sirois has worked in public speaking in this region. She was later flown to Kuwait, where she taught English at a British school for two more years. When she learned that a severe shortage of teachers struck Quebec Mélissa Sirois decided to return and submit his candidacy for several school boards. At least two organizations have expressed interest, but asked him to provide a copy of his license to teach in Quebec. However, the Ministry of Education refuses to issue the document until it has passed an examination in French or English. Even if she wanted to teach English, as it did in Ontario and Kuwait, but rather an authorization to teach "social studies" that could give him Quebec. "My friend told me she was sure I would find something back here, but this is not what happens, "she laments. I just turned 30 and I must return to live with my parents, "she says. The Ministry of Education acknowledges that Ms. Sirois is qualified. But that's not enough. "We recognize the degree of the lady, but [...] it is illegal," said the spokesman, Esther Chouinard. To teach, you must have obtained a legal authorization, it will be after passing a test in French [or English]. "This test must be passed, under an" Agreement on Internal Trade "and Regulations teaching licenses, said the spokesman. http://lejournaldemontreal.canoe.ca/journaldemontreal/actualites/education/archives/2010/10/20101027-040702.html
HAVE BEEN DENIED THE BACHELOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES. IF I DO MY CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL WORK DOES IT INCREASE MY CHANCES OF BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR THE BACHELOR? The certificate in social work is not an automatic gateway to the BSW. The Bachelor of Social Work is a limited enrollment program, which is why we only accept applicants who have the best performance ratings. Thus, a candidate who is the certificate and to be admitted to the Bachelor may be refused if not high enough marks. In addition, there is little chance that the notes of the certificate (even if they are good) can increase the performance rating enough to be admitted to bachelor's, since the strength index of the certificate (which is used to calculate the score) is not very high. It is recommended to enroll in other baccalaureate programs because they have the advantage of having strength indices higher than the certificate in social work. Students interested to register for the BA must apply before March 1 as any other student. www.svs.ulaval.ca/?pid=678

Do you want to resume your studies to redirect you? Last week, 727 players of the Boomerang (Jobboom) answered this question. Many people would like to change course on the professional level. As evidence, only 5% of respondents say they do not feel the need to refocus because their career is doing well! One in five claims to have everything already planned to return to school in order to reorient themselves. Although the idea of a reorientation smiles to many, some find that studies are too expensive (21%), dare not leave their job (16%) or are reluctant for fear of being the oldest person in their class (9%)! 18% of participants would like to reorient themselves, but discourages this idea too. Finally, 8% of respondents believe will readjust, but without pursuing further studies. www.jobboom.com/

New criteria for diagnosis of personality disorders proposed. Researchers in psychology propose, in an article published in the Journal of Personality Disorders, new criteria for the diagnosis of personality disorders, more scientific and practical, do they. This study falls within the context of the work of several teams to redefine personality disorders in the next edition of the reference manual for diagnosing mental disorders, DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) published by the American Psychiatric Association (whose publication is planned for 2013). "There is broad consensus among researchers that the current way of conceptualizing personality disorders do not work," said Christopher Hopwood of the University of Michigan, the lead author. The current method, as outlined in DSM-IV classifies personality disorders into 10 categories. This system is broken, "he said, because it does not take into account the severity of disorder in an effective and often leads to overlapping diagnoses. "It is simply not true that there are 10 types of personality disorders and they are categories, "he said. Hopwood and his colleagues propose a 3-step strategy for diagnosing personality disorders: Step 1: Consider the features of the normal personality of a person, such as introversion / extroversion. These traits may indicate particular strengths of a person who could help overcome psychiatric difficulties, and these forces are not evaluated in the current DSM. Knowledge of these features can also guide clinicians in their recommendations to a person in depression, for example. Step 2: Represent through a score the severity of the disorder. Step 3: Define the disorder according to 5 dimensions that replaces 10 existing personality disorders. Clinicians diagnose how symptoms of each disorder has a person, rather than if it has one or more of the 10 current system disorders. This method is more reliable, valid and accurate than the current system, according to Hopwood, because research has not substantiated the validity of several of the current unrest. particularity: which means the bizarre in thought or behavior, this dimension includes the diagnoses of paranoid personality, schizoid and schizotypal; withdrawal: that includes the avoidant personality (eg, not wanting to leave home); fear: that combines opposite extremes such as the absence of fear among antisocial and fear among those dependent or avoidant; instability : which is similar to the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder in DSM-IV, the main feature is the instability, as in relationships, gender identity or emotional experience. the debate: that includes obsessive-compulsive disorder and other behavior defined by a methodical too: it's a rigid sense of how life should proceed, how to behave and how others should behave. www.psychomedia.qc.ca/pn/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8223

School, 65% of guys without a diploma. Across Quebec, only 49.1% of the guys who entered a public school in 2004 had graduated five years later. Despite all the action plans put in place to fight against the drop, up to 65% of boys enrolled in some school boards have not got the slightest degree, in 2009, five years after starting high school. This statistic, considered alarming by some observers, appears in a document published quietly by the Ministry of Education, a few days ago. Of all students who have made their entry into secondary in 2004, four out of ten failed to obtain qualification, five years later. The picture is even bleaker for boys, especially among those attending public schools. More than half of them were unable to obtain any certification in 2009, five years after starting high school. In some school boards, the situation is downright disastrous. Nearly 65% of the guys who are part of a multipurpose CS Samares, Lanaudière, or CS Summit, Eastern Townships, not having difficulty read rivet to graduate after five years. The phenomenon is repeated elsewhere in Quebec, including Montreal, Outaouais, Abitibi and the Laurentians. Professor Pierre Potvin, an expert on the stall is very concerned about these new statistics. "The problem persists, deplores the expert, who works at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivieres. The problem of boys has not diminished, "he said. "What infuriates me is that it's been 20 years since it does not change," says Chantal Longpre, the Quebec Federation of school principals. In his view, it reveals that "we must revise our ways of doing things" in education. "Maybe he should give more resources at school, "she pleads. Currently, there is a share that is between the school board and school. Requires that decisions are made about students. "The president of the Federation of School Boards, Josée Bouchard, believes that" we must redouble our efforts "and develop projects that catch the kids at school. "When they say it takes work, it's not for nothing," she says. This is data that correspond to what we knew. That's what we work so hard. "The SC of Samara, where the guys are the least likely of the province to obtain a high school diploma after five years, claims to have the situation in the eye. In an interview with the Journal, the Assistant Director General, Sylvie Anctil, compiled an impressive list of measures put in place to reverse the trend. Most significant is a program called DEAL, which aims to make a "close monitoring" of students most at risk. Last year 155 young people were supported by stakeholders. A year later, 140 of these teens were still in school. "We think we found a way to keep our students and meet their career aspirations," said Ms. Anctil. Neither the Department of Education, nor the School Board Summit, where the graduation rate for boys is also very low, have recalled the Journal. www.canoe.com/infos/quebeccanada/archives/2010/11/20101102-055600.html
Psychology Storm in a glass of water to run a brainstorming group (brainstorming or the inevitable "storm brain ") to find good ideas ... is a bad idea! And it proved. In 1958, researchers at Yale University have refuted the efficacy of this creative technique became popular five years ago following the publication the book Applied Imagination. A person generates more ideas when she is alone, then advanced specialists. Michael Mumford, a professor at the University of Oklahoma, said today that half of the techniques commonly used to stimulate creativity are indeed useless and even harmful. However, some things remain infallible to whip our neurons: Doing 30 minutes of aerobic exercise - the benefits of creativity are evident in two hours. Flee the small screen: three hours per day spent watching television swallow one third of the creative potential children ... and adults. Work alternately on two different creative projects. At the office, throw away any suggestion box, physical or virtual. Employees are in any case feel that their ideas fall into a bureaucratic black hole. An innovative company allows its employees to put their ideas into practice and not just state them. Shortage of manpower hits hard. Nearly four out of ten companies in Quebec, 38% indicate suffer the negative effects of the shortage of labor on their turnover, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce Quebec (FCCQ). "At first glance, this may seem acceptable when it comes to rising production costs, relationships with customers or projects for expansion, but it's frankly disturbing when one realizes that it also means the loss of contracts or Restrictions in the bids that companies are willing to do, "commented Ms. Bertrand Thursday, when publishing the results of this survey of over 300 entrepreneurs. FCCQ qualifies as "serious problem" that fewer entrepreneurs say they have problems of manpower currently in a previous survey conducted in 2008. According to the organization, demography has not improved over the past two years and must therefore be wary of illusions. "The economic crisis that we go out quietly may have mitigated the impression that our businesses are shortages of labor and thus boosted the reality, but overall this should not obscure the issue of labor that is structural, "said Ms. Bertrand. In addition, the shortage of highly skilled workers hits very hard outside major urban centers, because they are 38% of companies who say live this problem while in Montreal it is 14% and 19% in Quebec. http://argent.canoe.ca/lca/affaires/quebec/archives/2010/11/20101104-105058.html

Learning problems: Quebec last class. Quebec fails to provide adequate educational services to children with attention deficit disorder / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), according to the Canadian agency rights of sufferers. The body's report concludes that students diagnosed with ADHD in these provinces do not receive appropriate educational services unless they are suffering from a second handicap to learning.

Doctors on the Edge
Last year, 978 doctors have called on the assistance program to physicians in Quebec. Practitioners in distress who have tried everything to get out themselves before resorting to service, however, guarantee total confidentiality. It was a real ray of sunshine. A bright young woman, sports, musician. After several years of study, she finally earned his medical degree. She decided to complete his training in a hospital emergency room in Western Canada, just to see the country. One evening last year, a man came into anaphylactic shock. He was stung by a bee. The young general practitioner treated him. He survived. But the chief of emergency has passed comment on the quality of medical intervention. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. www.cyberpresse.ca/actualites/quebec-canada/sante/201011/08/01-4340661-medecins-au-bord-du-gouffre.php

Never summon someone to be "creative" - enough to freeze any burst of creativity! # http://carriere.jobboom.com/magazine/zoom/2010/10/07/15619556-jm.html Psychology
depression recurrence in half of the adolescents treated. Almost all adolescents treated for major depression will recover, but about half experience a recurrence within 5 years following, according to a study published in Archives of General Psychiatry. John Curry of Duke University and colleagues conducted the study with 196 adolescents diagnosed with major depression who were randomly assigned to different treatments lasting 12 weeks: the antidepressant Prozac (fluoxetine), a Cognitive-behavioral therapy, a combination of both or placebo. They were followed for 5 years. www.psychomedia.qc.ca/pn/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8236
