Integration of Pupils : CEGEPs disappointed to be excluded. According FNEEQ struggling students are more likely to attend colleges. They would, however, very late in the integration of these young people. Several groups will not participate in the day ministerial meeting on the integration of children in difficulty, held in Quebec City today and meet a hundred participants. But according to Education Minister Line Beauchamp, the excluded must not worry because today's meeting "is not an end." Today's discussions will focus not only on integration in elementary and secondary schools. Federation National Teachers of Quebec (FNEEQ), which represents teachers college, sad not to participate. "We will be there, but we will not have the right to speak," says Vice-President FNEEQ Michelle Thibodeau. This explains why colleges are attracting more and more students with difficulties. "Growth is super fast. Note the presence of these students, especially the last two years, "says Thibodeau. She said the colleges are "very late" in terms of integration. "It's chaos in colleges. Because we do not know what to do with these kids. Services offered vary from one place to another. Teachers lack information and training to deal with this new reality, "says Thibodeau. Brigitte Gagne teaches special education at the Cégep de Sherbrooke since 1986. It notes that a growing number of pupils attending his classes. "For three or four years, young people tell us they have attention deficit disorder. They are on medication. We must make modifications to them, "she notes. Ms. Gagne said that the main change is that teachers should provide more time outside the classroom to help these students. "Teachers should take time to adapt their teaching materials and assessments, "says Thibodeau, who believes that the Department should consider the new reality of colleges in terms of integration. Besides the colleges, a group of organizations that help troubled youth complain of being excluded from the meeting today. These organizations joined together in the Rally commitment to young people outside the school system (REJESS) and will be here this afternoon in Quebec City in hopes of talking to the Minister Beauchamp. "It's always the same voices that are heard. We work with young people excluded from regular classes for nearly 30 years. We have things to say, "says Suzanne Daneau, coordinator of The Mailbox Longueuil and spokesman REJESS. www.cyberpresse.ca/actualites/quebec-canada/education/201010/25/01-4335730-integration-des-eleves-en-difficulte-les-cegeps-decus-detre-exclus.php

Ministerial Meeting on the integration of pupils
The Federation of colleges participating today as an observer in the Ministerial Meeting on the integration of students. Although the meeting is on the primary-secondary issues related to students difficulties are also present at the college, and that more and more. Indeed, there has been some years a very significant increase in the number of students and students with learning disabilities or mental health problems. According to preliminary data from the Federation of colleges, for all 48 colleges, the number of students increased from 136 in fall 2000 to fall 1071 to 2008, which represents almost eight times more. These figures are minimal and could be higher in reality, especially because students experiencing these disorders are not diagnosed or reported all as they arrive at college. Moreover, colleges welcome customers with disabilities "traditional", which rose from 303 in fall 2000 to 778 in fall 2007. Even if the client called emerging increases in college, it is wrong to claim, as does FNEEQ in a statement released this morning in a newspaper that "there is chaos in colleges." The colleges do their utmost to provide students with learning disabilities or mental health specific services they need to succeed in their college courses and essential skills their social and professional integration. The organization of these services and their financing are also the subject of discussions within the Federation of colleges, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, to better tailor those services to new realities. Besides the needs of students themselves, the colleges are aware that teachers, professional staff and support staff who work with these clients should also be supported. With this in mind that after the last round of collective bargaining, a new mandate was given to a joint committee with the FEC FNEEQ and to analyze the problem of emerging clientele and their impact on teaching. Other measures have also been put in place after the negotiations, including the creation of new bodies in specialized employment services to be rendered to these clients. For professional staff, it is consulting and services tailored to support staff, coaches and technicians in special education. This new body of work will not only improve service to customers but also emerging to support teachers who work with these students and these students. www.newswire.ca/fr/releases/archive/October2010/25/c5659.html

EDUCATION Class "ordinary" dysfunctional. Marie-Christine taught last year in a Grade 6 class in a primary school in the district Limoilou in Quebec City. Of 24 students, 11 were lower than Grade 6, two of which had not passed the 1st and 2nd year. The class of Marie-Christine had three students conduct disorder, three with learning difficulties, two who were having an "attention deficit disorder 'more than four children whose mother tongue. "The child who is 11 years and is in Grade 1 or Grade 2 does not understand what I teach history, geography or science because the vocabulary and reading are not suitable. I had to adapt my teaching. I had notebooks for each of these levels so that children can walk. I had to newsletters at different levels in French and mathematics. Except that one time you burn to the task, "says the young teacher. Two reasons explain the presence of students who are behind in school in 6th grade Marie-Christine. First class accommodations for students with difficulties have been minimized, for budgetary reasons, "she said. In addition, students may intensify once. Subsequently, they are integrated into regular classes, regardless of their educational backwardness, says Marie-Christine. "It would have the school board to reopen and have sub-class accommodation in our schools," the teacher calls. Marie-Christine believes that the 12 students in Grade 6 level it had last year have been penalized. Their parents expected me to provide them five hours of instruction per day. They were penalized because I devoted 40% of my time to my classroom management for students in special and difficult circumstances. "At the end of last school year, last year, Marie-Christine has done to his students after the exam level where they were. All were successful, "she said. This year, all will undergo a review of 6e, regardless of their level. "I may be 50% of my students who will spend. I'll go for a bad teacher, Marie-Christine provides. http://lejournaldequebec.canoe.ca/journaldequebec/actualites/national/archives/2010/10/20101026-000553.html

Students with special needs. Overcoming the problems of integration. The Minister of Education of Quebec, Line Beauchamp, opened the forum discussions on the integration of students with learning difficulties by an admission of failure. Before a hundred representatives from the education community met in Quebec, she said that in 10 years, their integration into regular classes had not yielded the expected results. Approximately 163 000 students in Quebec are in difficulty or disability. This is one in five students in secondary classes, and only 25% of them manage to get graduation, even if Quebec injects more resources into special education. "The integration of these children in need represents a success rate right now - if we define success through graduation or qualification - one in four. As Education Minister, I must send a signal that, yes, if there are things moving, if I'm upset, I'll do, "she said. The president of the Fédération des commissions scolaires du Québec agrees. "There is something that does not work. You know, when it comes to not infringe the rights of other students in class when we talk undue hardship, no tags around it, "says Josée Bouchard. "There is an old principle: 10% of pupils in a class, the top will pull down. Delivered 30% of pupils in a class, the low will pull up. Something like that the problem of education in a decade ", Réjean Parent, president of the Centrale des syndicats du Québec www.radio-canada.ca/nouvelles/societe/2010/10/25/002-education -integration-eleves.shtml

Life at Work. Attention deficit to work. Procrastination chronic repeated oversights and poor organizational characteristics are not attractive to an employer. More than a lack of will, in some cases it is a disease that is treatable: Disorder Attention Deficit. If a person who hopes for a promotion is entrusted with the management of an important meeting in the absence of his boss, it is hard to forget it over the weekend. Yet it has happened to Duane Gordon, 47, a technical writer in Montreal. "On Monday morning, I waited with other employees in the meeting room. I completely forgot to replace my boss! " admits it. At that time, Duane Gordon knew that his memory problems were symptomatic of a disorder of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, see box). http://carriere.jobboom.com/mode-vie/vie-travail/2010/10/12/15660146-jm.html

The documentary miniseries Y manual, airing on Tuesday on Canal Vie at 20h, paints a portrait of this pretty amazing generation that refuses to fit the mold. A disturbing picture of the sexuality of young people in the DPJ. One study surveyed adolescents placed in rehabilitation centers and group homes in Montreal, Laval, Montérégie, Laurentians and Eastern Townships. Nearly half of teens under the responsibility of the Directorate of Youth Protection (DYP) have had group sex in their lives, and this has happened to them on average three times each. This is revealed - among other things - the preliminary report of a study entitled troubling Sex, drugs and other health issues of particular concern as regards girls youth centers. EDUCATION The "normal" penalized. CSQ prevents the Department of Education that we must stop "to skim" regular classes and increase services for students. The public school is crumbling under the weight of his class called "regular" because it is overloaded with students with disabilities or with difficulties of all kinds, denounce teachers' unions and professionals. "When you have a child who has temper tantrums all day long, how does the teacher about the program and content and to meet the expectations of other students? Asks Manon Bernard, president of the Federation of Education (ESF). Deserted by the students' normal "Who go to private school or specific program, the class becomes a regular" catch-all "where students with disabilities alongside students in learning disability or behavior and that those who are at risk fail because that teachers are overwhelmed by the enormity of the task. http://lejournaldequebec.canoe.ca/journaldequebec/actualites/quebec/archives/2010/10/20101019-220935.html

What strategies study do you teach your students? A recent article in The New York Times demonstrates the falsity of a number of boards frequently transmitted on the study. The contribution of recent research? No, rather the results investigations and experiments carried out and taken over the last thirty years, but whose distribution does not significantly change beliefs. Here are some tips refuted by scientific studies and recommendations as appropriate. Usual advice: Look at the same place, conducive to concentration. Recommendation: Diversify the study sites. Explanation: The change in study sites enhances memory, brain study involving objects and sensations caused by the environment. The multiplicity of associations established with the same object of knowledge enriches its procurement process and promotes memorization long term. Usual advice: Make a long period of exercises or study type. Recommendation: Work in one sitting, alternately, several related skills. Explanation: The alternation produces deeper learning, involves an intellectual rather than continuing the mindless and repetitive application of a strategy or recognition of same mechanical surface treatment. Usual advice: Be prepared to review at least one week in advance. Recommendation: Study and practice every day, even briefly. Explanation: The frequency and spreading forcing the recall of elements of learning, facilitate access to them, cause their recapture and contribute to the structuring and integration of knowledge. Therefore, the evaluation of critical objects called continuous learning course or are frequent formative assessment strategies which serve the aims of integration and competence. The practical combination of these three recommendations was a decisive effect on learning, making it both strong and durable. Esteem self affects the heart and immune system. A good self-esteem would have an impact on heart health and immune system, according to a study published in the Journal of Research in Personality. A good self-esteem helps them feel more secure when faced with threats, which influence physiological responses. The research psychologist Andy Martens, University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand) and colleagues asked 184 participants to assess their level of self-esteem every day for two weeks and analyzed their cardiac vagal tone, a measure of the influence of the parasympathetic nervous system on the heart. www.psychomedia.qc.ca/pn/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8209

motherhood leads to loss of earnings. The fact leaving work for reasons related to maternity or family leads to loss of wages unexplained and important to women, according to a report by TD Economics. The authors, Beata Caranci and Pascal Gauthier, argue that this "gap maternity 'in wages is mainly due to penalties that mothers suffer every time they leave the labor market and reintegrated. Women who leave the labor force to have children tend to experience a wage penalty constant 3% per year of absence. The report shows that the unexplained wage penalty is up to three times higher for women who leave their jobs frequently than those who are absent for long. For example, a woman who now earns after tax of $ 60 000 and will work continuously for six more years would see their real wages increase at some $ 64 000, assuming an annual increase of 1%. If the woman leaves the workforce for three years before returning to work for 20 consecutive years, she would suffer a cumulative penalty of over $ 325 000 in today's dollars, taking into account the amounts of wage replacement and penalty constant 3% per year of absence. According to the report, women can, in many ways, reduce the wage gap associated to motherhood. Thus, financial losses are much lower if women gain more experience before they leave their jobs temporarily, whatever the duration of their absence from the labor market. Return with the same employer also causes a wage penalty less important, since social networks and other specific skills the company are kept. "Since a large share of the skilled workforce will retire over the next 10 years, employers must do everything possible to attract and retain highly skilled workers, including mothers," says Pascal Gauthier, Economist, Economic Services TD. "These new data provide employers with a unique perspective on how to reorganize jobs and provide the flexibility to meet the new demographic, while helping employees and businesses prepare for the anticipated shortage of labor qualified. It will also trouble the encoding (writing, spelling) and will produce an unreadable text. He may have trouble with logic and mathematics, have difficulty to plan and organize work. He can be moody and quickly demonstrate signs of frustration. You see his despondency and suicidal thoughts you fear. The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is often associated with learning disabilities and behavior. The child (boy or girl) is moving constantly, can not pay attention steadily and acts impulsively. At a time when we talk about dropout prevention, where research shows the ineffectiveness of repetition, where we talk about integration in regular class versus special class placement, how do you make the best decisions for her child? Attention Deficit at work
Chronic Procrastination, forgetfulness and repeated bad organizational characteristics are not attractive to an employer. More than a lack of will, in some cases it is a disease that is treatable: Deficit Disorder attention. Like many adults, Francine Demers and Gordon Duane were diagnosed rather late, after the screening of their children. They may still consider himself lucky because only 10% of adults are diagnosed concerned. " http://carriere.jobboom.com/mode-vie/vie-travail/2010/10/12/15660146-jm.html

Lack Scholarship
In Quebec, only 50% of students who try obtain a scholarship to study at Masters and PhD and whose cases are deemed "excellent" are able to obtain financial assistance. This situation is unacceptable to the Board of Education, which publishes this morning a review of training offered at the graduate level at universities in the province. Believing that the "knowledge society" continues to grow Worldwide, the Council wanted to ensure the competitiveness of Quebec on a global scale in terms of higher education. According to Council President Nicole Boutin, the quality of training offered here is excellent. The president is concerned, however, the lack of access to scholarships. "Only one out of two students have access. And speaking of students with exemplary records. Québec funds do not have enough money to support all deserving students. For a reclassification interpretative interests by Eric Damato, co Holland certainly has contributed decisively orientation to the world by offering much research on the professional interests. His typology known as RIASEC terminology is used in several countries and the number of publications, tests, etc.. continues to grow. If the tools associated with the typology still contribute to the reflections when careerology one wonders about his future, however, the interpretation of RIASEC done in different ways depending on the professional consulted. These could include that some people are content to meet the highest scales, usually three in number, and interpret personality by simply combining these scales. As if the interest derived personality represent any amount of features that the professional choice will sometimes considered strongly stained. In my opinion, and that is the purpose of this presentation, we would do well to reconsider how to interpret the RIASEC. In this context, I propose a reclassification of interpretative interest in a hypothetical perspective, that is to say where the RIASEC is used in a question associated with three major dimensions that are the work tasks, workplace and working method. www.orientaction.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=266&catid=61&Itemid=79

Laval University awarded $ 1.5 million to promote collaboration between the college and university. Laval University will forward four projects to foster collaboration between the college and university, through the collaborative program of University-College Department of Education, Recreation and Sport (MELS). The grant of over $ 1.5 million, spread over the next three years, represents more than a quarter of the total allocated by the MELS for all universities and colleges in Quebec. The university is also the only one who saw four of its projects funded on the basis of their quality. In collaboration with the College Lionel-Groulx and the University Centre Lower Laurentians, the General Directorate of Continuing Education Laval University will establish a center of educational support and tutoring in higher education. This center will allow better support for students taking online courses. He will also meet the needs of students enrolled in a combined December-LAC to promote graduation at both levels of education and help them in the transition between college and university. For its part, the Faculty of Administrative Sciences collaborates with colleges François-Xavier-Garneau and Beauce-Etchemin for the creation of a training firm in educational administration. This project will enable students to technical programs in administration and bachelor of business administration from experiences of joint training. The objective is to integrate the knowledge and expertise in providing opportunities for participants to forge ties to foster the pursuit of higher education. The team of information technology of the Laval University Library will work with the College Limoilou to develop students' skills in information retrieval. The learning environment of Web 2.0 requires new skills for students, particularly in terms of selection and assessment of information sources, and respect for intellectual property. These new powers are now intimately linked to the success of postsecondary education. The launch of Webfolio by the Employment Service of Laval University, last October, was a great success among university students. The grant will enable the MELS Sainte-Foy Cegep de Drummondville and to join the University to develop a Webfolio for college students. The goal is to provide students with a tool for reflection in order they adopt the best strategies to reach the right career. The tool used for both the choice of a university program for entering the job market for graduates of technical programs. These four projects are in addition to six others are in progress, having been approved by the Department during the previous competition. The university is a pioneer in partnering with colleges. It works with thirty of them in Quebec and some colleges in New Brunswick. The University has signed 200 agreements DEC-BAC in 73 curriculum techniques. In addition, 1473 gateways are available to college students from 219 programs. The main objective of the agreements DEC-BAC and bridges is to reduce duplication of knowledge because of material already seen in the technical training or university. It thus ensures a better alignment between college and university programs of the same family, and greater consistency in training. www.lescegeps.com/nouvelles/2010-10-06_luniversite_laval_obtient_1_5_m_pour_favoriser_la_collaboration_entre_le_collegial_et_lun

Green light tank in biomedical engineering at Laval University
Another step towards the creation of this program was taken to the University Council. The project to implement the University with a bachelor's degree program in biomedical engineering has taken another step Tuesday, September 28. Members of the Academic Council, meeting in regular session, gave their approval to a proposal submitted by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (WISE), Guy Gendron. The implementation of the program no longer depends now that the approval of the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities and the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport. "All conditions are met for this program was born," said François Pothier, president of the academic council. There is currently only one other such program in Canada, the three concentrations offered are in areas booming and the FSG are several professors and researchers in advanced fields of biomedical engineering sector . The task of biomedical engineering involves the design, development and implement protocols, equipment and medical devices for monitoring physiological functions, medical diagnosis or treatment of patients. The ferry will be a biomedical engineering program at the forefront of 120 credits in a multidisciplinary field. It include a general profile and concentrations in tissue engineering and biomaterials, biomechanics, orthopedics, medical imaging and Biomechatronics. In Canada as elsewhere, the development of the biomedical sector looks promising, particularly because of recent advances in biological sciences and an aging population. There are at Quebec some 75 companies active in the biomedical sector. In Canada in full, we're talking about a thousand companies. Seventy percent of the courses provided new biomedical engineering program already exist in other programs of WISE. "We observe similar programs in the United States, the biomedical engineering has great potential for attracting female customers," said François Pothier. The new program will be attached to the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The Faculty is already planning to develop a master's and doctoral programs in biomedical engineering. www.aufil.ulaval.ca/articles/feu-vert-bac-genie-biomedical-28141.html

from failure to failure for future teachers
Established since 2008 The TECFEE must be passed by all teachers who study in Quebec universities. Each year, an average of 30% of students in the Bachelor of Education passed this exam the first time. The majority of teachers Quebec continue to fail in large numbers at their first attempt to test for certification to teach written French (TECFEE). The latest statistics reveal that on that success rates vary from 29% to 57% by universities. Established since 2008, to be succeeded by TECFEE all future teachers studying at Quebec universities. Each year, an average of 30% of students in the Bachelor of Education passed this exam the first time. It is still the case this year, according to data obtained by the Journal de Montréal. At the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue the success rate is only 29%, while it is 32% at the University of Quebec in Outaouais and 57% at the University of Montreal. At Laval University, success rates vary by field of study. Prospective teachers of preschool and elementary school were able to review 60% compared to only 33% of future music teachers. The TECFEE is composed of two parts: an application drafting a text of 350 words, and the other consists of 60 questions on grammar, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary. Must obtain at least 70% in both parties to pass the test. Those who fail the TECFEE first time are entitled to three occasions. If the student fails a fourth time, he was expelled from the program and must make a cross on his future as a teacher. At the University of Sherbrooke, 38% of the 497 students who made their first award of TECFEE last April were successful, compared to 33% last year. "And another 38% of students had met one of the two parties and will therefore only repeat this bit of consideration," says Vice-Dean of Faculty Training University Education Sherbrooke, Julie Desjardins. It does not worry unduly low rate of execution. "Before the times, students take advanced courses. The third award, the success rate is 93%. The examination requires students to go to perfect their French, "she said. Centre director of initial teacher training at the University of Montreal, Pascale Lefrançois, said that the success rate TECFEE is substantially the same from year to year and that at his university, 87% of students pass the exam after two reversals. www.cyberpresse.ca/actualites/quebec-canada/education/201010/13/01-4331902-dechecs-en-echecs-pour-les-futurs-profs.php

FRENCH massive failure of future teachers
Future teachers trained in our universities continue to fail massively French test giving access to the profession, a situation that exposes serious flaws in the concepts they were taught in school high school and college, say several observers. At the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), not less than 71% of students who came to test for certification to teach written French (TECFÉE) last May, have failed. It was the first time these students spent this famous test, which was established in 2008 in all universities in the province. The success rate is improving gradually, however, as future teachers receive refresher courses and exams. The data obtained by the Journal show that other universities are faced with failure rate comparable to that of UQAT. At the University of Quebec in Outaouais, for example, less than a third of students who sat for the test last April, have succeeded. "It's very worrying, what happens," says the vice-president Denis Dubé. French language skills of students we arrive inadequate more often than not, "he laments. The picture is somewhat rosier at the University Laval, Quebec, but not in all programs. Students who intend to teach physical education or art, in particular, have largely cast the test last June. In most cases, there was an examination. "Often in those sectors, students are less relevant [a French test]," says Dean of the Faculty of Education, Marcel Monette. A few weeks ago, four out of ten students failed the TECFÉE, University Montreal. "I would have expected worse. We're pretty happy that the success rate is more than half, "said Pascale Lefrançois, Vice-Dean 1st cycle studies. Here are the success rates observed TECFÉE in some universities, in the most recent test administration: Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, May 2010: 29 University of Quebec at Chicoutimi, June 2010: 29% University of Quebec in Outaouais April 2010: 32% University of Montreal, August 2010: 57% Laval University has detailed results for each of its educational programs, summer 2010. Here are those for which the results are weaker. The main reasons for removal (e) lists of friends on Facebook. A doctoral thesis examined the main reasons why people are removed from the lists of friends on Facebook. Christopher Sibona, University of Colorado, conducted a survey among 1,500 Twitter Facebook users. The main reasons, in order of importance, to remove a person from a list friends are: posting messages too frequently not important or repetitive posting messages on issues that divide such as religion or politics; inappropriate messages, such as rude or racist comments. Given the public nature of Facebook profiles, Sibona urges users to exercise caution in their behavior, citing a 2010 survey showing that 54% of recruiters use Facebook to find job applicants or to investigate them. "The same types of messages that could make you delete friends lists could also be perceived negatively by recruiters," he said. This study will be published by the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. www.psychomedia.qc.ca/pn/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=8164
